There is an old saying: who does not remember the past has no future. NPO The Great Kin of Kalev brings together people of different ages and professions. They all are proud of the distant past of Estonians and their common goal is to remind others too what great roots we have.
Our focus is the history of 11th and 12th century – in other words, we aim to find out as much as we can about Estonian Viking Age. Strangely this age has received very little attention in our past and present history textbooks. Although both treasures found from earth and the epics of neighbouring nations speak of the great deeds of our ancestors.
The Great Kin of Kalev finds that historical re-enactment is the most efficient and fun way to get to know our ancient history and history in general. We try to bring to life as many aspects of ancient society as we can. Among us are musicians and artisans, warriors and traders, healers and cooks etc.
We are most happy to share our knowledge with others. We offer captivating and educational entertainment to kindergartens, schools and companies.
The Great Kin of Kalev holds in high esteem:
- continuous seeking of knowledge;
- diligence and honesty;
- keeping your word and responsible behaviour;
- dignity and kindness.
The Great Kin of Kalev despises:
- lies and giving big promises with no deeds to back them up;
- slackness, arrogance, greed and people who admire their own belly button.
